Powwow Drums
Native Art and Spiritual Craft
Tribal Spirit is synonymous with unique, superbly hand crafted native art that is both beautiful and functional. (Please visit our new e-commerce site... www.tribalspiritmusic.com where you will be able to click and buy Native Music...) Our passion is to build the spiritual tools required by the First Nations community. Our specialty is powwow drums which are being played by many of the best and future best powwow drum groups all over North America. But we also make hand drums, rattles, dreamcatchers, medicine shields, staffs, fans, medicine pouches and black ash baskets.
NEW FOR FALL 2011: Each year during hunting season we gather hides from hunters who are eating the meat but throwing the hides in the garbage....We decided this year to increase our collection. SO as of now we are offering Deer and Moose Raw Hide. The Deer are larger (12 to 15 sq ft) than normal and I will select clean/no hole hides....they cost $80 for one or 5 or more $70 each.
Moose Rawhide for Powwow Drums!!! Where we live hunters ALWAYS quarter the moose in order to get them out of the bush....So for a big drum you will need 2 quarters (one for each side) and one more for lacing. So Raw Hide of one powwow drum (3 pieces) are $250. Please measure the diameter of your drum and I will ensure that the quarters I select fit your drum. (Max size 28" diameter, sorry our quarters don't come any bigger)

We are Robert and Joywind, a family business working out of the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. We came together nearly 20 years ago, having both experienced unique and demanding life lessons. For the past decade, we have applied our skills and dedication to building native spiritual tools and sharing on the powwow trail. Rose and her son Joshua have recently joined the team adding their passion and energy to the mix.

We have a busy schedule which includes drum making workshops, conferences, recording powwow drum groups, under the Tribal Spirit Fair Trade Music label, pounding black ash for baskets, harvesting hides in the fall and of course, traveling powwows all over north america. We have recently added a new e-commerce web site in order to make picking your drum easier....all these products are in stock ready to go....

Each year during hunting season we gather wild deer and moose hides from hunters who hunt for food but have no use for the skins. We collect the skins, preserve them and then process them into leather and raw hide which we use for all of our powwow drums, hand drums and leather work. We offer these wild hides to our clients/friends as both moose and deer Raw Hide and Leather. This old style recycling is the starting place for our work as it reminds us that we are connected to all things. We hope that you appreciate the “wild” nature of our work and we thank the spirits who help us.

Our Powwow Drums are visually and audibly recognizable.
We use only the thickest moose and steer hides to ensure the strongest most profound bass possible. Our solid wood frames are built with selectively cut trees, (pine, cedar, cherry and butternut) and are built for a lifetime of challenges on the powwow trail. We have been sponsors of the Gathering of Nations singing contest, the Powwow Idol competition as well as many other Powwow Drum and Hand Drum Competitions.

Congratulation to Northern Cree and Wild Band of Comanches who won the Gathering of Nations Singing Contest, northern & southern!
We also built the First Nations Drums for the Cirque du Soleil 2010 production TOTEM.

At all times, we honor and appreciate the communities who have trusted us with the responsibility of building their ceremonial drums.

We build Hand Drums for many different needs. As drum makers we have learned the subtile differences between the various drums required by the north american native community such as Round Dance, Women's Songs, Healing Drums, Sweat Lodge Drums etc. Feel free to ask us about their differences and about your needs.

We are committed to serving our native spiritual community with the tools of our teachings. We are careful to listen to both our elders and our clients and serve their needs by building the best and ‘cleanest’ products we can.
